Prevention of oral cavity diseases.
The oral cavity is considered the most likely gateway for pathogens, since respiratory and foodborne infections enter the body through the oral cavity. In addition, injuries to the mucous membrane lining the oral cavity often become a start for the development of more complex diseases of the dentoalveolar system. It is the prevention of oral cavity diseases that occupies a leading place in the general prevention of diseases of the body as a whole, since the state of the oral cavity can say a lot about the pathological processes occurring in almost all systems of the body.
Prevention of diseases of the oral cavity consists of several components:
- Oral hygiene,
- Regular examination of the oral cavity (every six months),
- Oral cavity sanitation,
- A properly selected diet to maintain the required level of mineral components involved in the formation of dental tissues and bone structures of the jaw.
Oral hygiene consists of the obligatory cleaning of teeth, cleaning the tongue from plaque, antiseptic and deodorizing rinsing with elixirs at home. It is assumed that brushing teeth and deodorizing - antiseptic rinsing are able to inhibit the excessive reproduction of conditionally pathogenic microflora present in the oral cavity in certain quantities. Brushing your teeth and rinsing prevent the processes of decay of food debris, have a wound healing effect in case of microtraumas of the mucous membrane.
To clean teeth, brushes of varying degrees of hardness are used, depending on the state of the oral mucosa (brushes should not injure the mucous membrane, but only massage). Dental floss is suitable for cleaning the interdental spaces, which makes it possible to clean teeth in places that are hard to reach for a brush. Toothpaste, tooth powder, in addition to the abrasive effect, also have a deodorizing effect, and in some cases a whitening effect, if they have the appropriate chemical components in their composition.
Regular examinations allow you to timely identify the onset of the development of inflammatory processes in the oral mucosa, the presence of carious cavities and changes in the occlusion, which often acts as a traumatic factor for the mucous membrane and affects the quality of chewing food, and therefore the health of the digestive tract.
Sanitation of the oral cavity includes the treatment of identified diseases of the teeth and mucous membranes, the removal of damaged teeth that act as foci of infection.
The diet is selected individually, supports and corrects metabolic processes in the body, complements all previous preventive measures. The diet assumes the use of food supplements and vitamin - mineral complexes to improve the structure of the teeth. Calcium, fluorine, phosphorus, magnesium, potassium and other mineral components are prescribed after identifying their lack in the body. Uncontrolled use of mineral components is unacceptable, as it can lead to fluorosis, hypercalcemia, hyperkalemia, hyperphosphatemia, hypermagnesemia.
