Why do cats and dogs cough and sneeze?
If you are an observant person with animals in your house, you have often noticed how a cat or dog coughs and sneezes. What does a pet cough mean?
Any living creature is not alien to the same reflexes as a person. When lumps of hair, dust, particles of domestic plants enter the mouth or nasal cavity, cats and dogs begin to cough and sneeze reflexively, trying to get rid of the irritating object in the mouth or nose.
Cats and dogs love to sniff various objects, but plant pollen, strong odors cause reflex sneezing.
If the animal sneezes or coughs, when should you sound the alarm? Rare, one-off fits of coughing or sneezing in a cat or dog are common, but when the animal sneezes constantly throughout the day, it should alert you. Cats and dogs can be susceptible to allergic reactions to various household items: aerosols, odorous detergents, perfumes and deodorants sprayed in their presence. Allergies in animals can develop to the food they consume.
Regular coughing in a cat or dog is a risk of pneumonia, oral diseases, or any particles (food, scraps of fabric, thread, fluff, pieces of food) that can stick to the palate and cause coughing fits in the animal's mouth. Often parasites that have settled in the animal's body can cause a cough.
If the animal coughs or sneezes constantly during the day, the animal has lacrimation or nasal discharge, then in such cases the help of a veterinarian is necessary and the establishment of the true causes of coughing or sneezing in the animal.
