The intestines do not work - intestinal insufficiency.
A disease associated with impaired intestinal motility, intestinal secretory function and the processes of digestion and utilization of food components in the small intestine is called intestinal insufficiency.
The causes of intestinal insufficiency lie in multiple disorders of the gastrointestinal tract, and become the outcome of other gastrointestinal diseases (intestinal atony, disturbances in enzymatic activity and the work of the endocrine glands, which are responsible for the production of digestive secretions, not following a diet, poor nutrition, a sedentary life).
Most often, intestinal insufficiency is encountered in childhood, which may be due to congenital defects in the digestive tract.
Intestinal failure occurs in four stages, starting with a slowdown in the motor function of the intestine and gradually turning into paresis of the intestinal walls and inability to perform digestive functions. The fourth stage is considered terminal, when the lack of digestion and defecation leads to impaired respiratory functions (filled with gases, liquid and undigested food, the intestine causes the diaphragm to rise to a height that does not allow the chest to move in time with breathing - restriction of mobility). The composition of the blood changes due to the ingress of toxic substances from undigested food components into the bloodstream through the intestinal walls, bypassing the hepatic filters.
Signs of intestinal failure:
- In the early stages, constipation, infrequent bowel movements, bloating, vomiting and nausea;
- In the later stages, the cessation of the urge to defecate, the cessation of flatulence and signs of intestinal motility.
Treatment of intestinal insufficiency is reduced to drug and electrostimulating therapy of intestinal motility. Preliminary lavage of the stomach and intestines is carried out using drainage tubes (inserted through the nasal passages). Along with the restoration of intestinal motor functions, stimulation of digestion processes, detoxification therapy is carried out to remove toxic products of disturbed metabolism from the body. An indicator of progress in such a pathology as intestinal insufficiency is considered the resumption of intestinal motility and self-defecation.
