Typhlitis - what is it?
In the area of the cecum, inflammation of the mucous membrane may develop, which is called "typhlitis". The development of typhlitis is facilitated by stagnation in the intestine, weak peristalsis, infectious agents that penetrate into the lumen of the cecum from infectious foci. Typhlitis can develop against the background of chronic appendicitis, colitis, Crohn disease, intestinal obstruction, adhesive disease. The development of typhlitis is slow, the inflammatory process can cause intoxication of the whole organism, manifested by a general disturbance of well-being, nausea, headaches, and weakness.
The signs of typhlitis are very similar to those of chronic appendicitis:
- Pain syndrome develops in the right iliac region,
- Typhlitis may be accompanied by bloating (there is a feeling of "bloating"),
- There is a disorder of the intestines (constipation and diarrhea alternate),
- On palpation, the cecum has a dense structure and is enlarged in size, displaces,
- Possible nausea and urge to vomit,
- Colic may occur a few hours after eating.
Factors that provoke the development of typhlitis:
- A diet based on the use of large amounts of coarse fiber,
- Chronic intestinal infections,
- Dysbiosis,
- A sedentary lifestyle that causes intestinal congestion.
Treatment of typhlitis is based on antimicrobial therapy, improving the enzymatic activity of the intestine, treating constipation, following a balanced diet and eating regimen (without long breaks for fasting). Prevention of dysbiosis and intestinal infections prevents the development of typhlitis.
