How is chronic appendicitis treated?
Chronic appendicitis is a pathology characterized by an asymptomatic course, or pain attacks in the right iliac region of an irregular nature. In chronic appendicitis, pain often occurs after physical exertion, tension in the peritoneal region.
The signs of chronic appendicitis may be similar to a number of diseases, differential diagnosis which is performed in the diagnosis of "chronic appendicitis": colitis (spastic, ulcerative), ileitis, a duodenal ulcer, irritable bowel syndrome, typhlitis, helminth infections, cholelithiasis, adhesive disease and others. To clarify the diagnosis, an irrigoscopy of the cecum is performed.
Chronic appendicitis is a chronic inflammatory process in the appendix, which can provoke a number of changes in the structure of the cecum: granulation growths of the mucous membrane, atrophic changes in the walls of the cecum, adhesions of the cecum, etc.
With chronic appendicitis, a diet is required that excludes foods that provoke increased gas production : black bread, cabbage, legumes, carbonated drinks.
Treatment of chronic appendicitis includes laparoscopic appendectomy, a low-traumatic surgical procedure with minimal complications. Timely treatment of chronic appendicitis can prevent acute disease and rupture of the appendix.
