Intestinal stones.
Intestinal peristalsis is a very important function, it helps to evacuate waste and toxins from the body. But many diseases can disrupt the motor function of the intestine, thereby delaying the evacuation of feces, which tend to accumulate, thicken and turn over time into fossils - fecal stones (coprolites).
The tendency to form stones in the intestine is observed with intestinal dyskinesia, when the intestinal walls partially lose their ability to peristalsis. Dyskinesia of the intestinal walls can result from:
- lingering nervous stress,
- disorders of the innervation of the intestinal walls,
- chronic trauma to the intestinal wall (caused, for example, by infectious agents),
- ulceration of the intestinal walls,
- hobbies with laxative drugs,
- improperly constructed food,
- age-related disorders of the tone of the intestinal walls,
- side effects of drugs,
- a sedentary lifestyle.
One of the reasons for the formation of fecal stones is a violation of the enzymatic activity of the gastrointestinal tract. Insufficiently processed food with enzymes (not broken down to the desired consistency) moves further along the digestive tract and reaches the large intestine. Frequent constipation, hemorrhoids, colitis, which do not make it possible to regularly empty the intestines, lead to the formation of fecal stones in the intestines. Usually fecal stones form in the niches of the large intestine, with small sizes they can be excreted with feces imperceptibly. But when they reach a certain size, exceeding the possibility of their free movement in the large intestine, they become an obstacle to the movement of feces, injure the intestines to an even greater extent and create conditions for intestinal obstruction - a life-threatening condition.
According to statistics, elderly people are more likely to suffer from the formation of fecal stones, since it is they who lead a sedentary lifestyle, suffer from diseases of the nervous system, diseases requiring drug therapy with side effects, and have poor nutrition. Children and young people may experience the problem of fecal stones if they have a history of colonic dyskinesia.
It is possible to prevent stone formation in the intestine by timely treatment of intestinal diseases (colitis, intestinal dyskinesia), changing the lifestyle and diet to a healthier one. The diet should contain foods that stimulate intestinal motility. Ideally, it is fiber and water, which, in combination, activate bowel motility, forcing the evacuation of processed food and waste. Since peristalsis directly depends on the state of the nervous system and the ability to cause contractions of the intestinal walls through nerve impulses, it is worth worrying about the health of the nervous system and not unwinding its potential over trifles. There is no better remedy to prevent constipation and thickening of stool than movement. The intestines work better when a person is moving - walking fast, running, dancing,
The best way to get rid of fecal stones is to prevent them from forming. But if stones in the intestine have already formed, then they are removed after diagnosis, studying the location, size and possibilities of their independent exit. For stones that are too large or located in niches, surgery is prescribed to remove the stones. Without a diagnostic examination and doctor's recommendations, taking laxatives and setting an enema is dangerous, you can provoke the movement of a large stone, which will close the passage and cause intestinal obstruction or rupture of the intestinal walls.
