Cryptitis - signs and treatment.
The final, narrowest part of the rectum, which has a length of 2.5 to 5 cm, is called the anal canal. The upper part of this canal is formed by folds of the mucous membrane, called anal pillars, between which there are depressions (niches, sinuses) - Morgan crypts. Morganian crypts are the mouths of the anal glands that secrete mucus and facilitate the softer movement of feces through the narrow canal of the rectum. In total, a person has from six to ten Morgan crypts. Inflammation of the morganic crypt is called cryptitis.
Cryptitis occurs as a result of blockage of the lumen of the morganic crypt during injury, infection, or a chronic inflammatory process that occurs in the tissues of the anal column close to the crypts.
Cryptite signs:
- Burning and / or itching in the rectal area,
- Pain symptom during bowel movements and after emptying and until the moment of bowel movement,
- Slight bleeding during bowel movements,
- Feeling of the presence of a foreign body in the lumen of the rectum.
The development of cryptitis can be triggered by improperly selected food (sharp, rough), irritating to the rectal mucosa, chronic constipation, acute and chronic infections, colitis, traumatic diagnostic tests during examination by a proctologist, surgical interventions, traumatic anal sex.
Cryptitis can be acute and chronic. The chronic course of cryptitis is dangerous with complications: paraproctitis, proctitis, anal fissure, rectal abscess, fistulas, lectenosis, and the development of rectal cancer.
When a diagnosis of cryptitis is made, it is necessary to carry out a differential diagnosis with a disease such as an anal fissure, since both diseases have similar symptoms. With cryptitis, the pains are short-lived, while with a crack, the pains are of a more intense and prolonged course.
Treatment for cryptitis depends on the form of its course. The uncomplicated form of cryptitis is treated by normalizing intestinal functions (prevention and treatment of constipation, colitis, intestinal infections, dysbiosis). When infectious agents are detected, antimicrobial therapy is performed. To relieve inflammation, rectal suppositories are used, the lumen of the anus is washed with microclysters with a weak solution of silver nitrate. Hygiene of the anus is carried out after each act of defecation.
With complicated or chronic cryptitis, surgical intervention is performed to excise the inflamed crypt and the adjacent anal papilla.
