Diet for colitis.
The disease colitis, manifested by inflammatory processes in the intestine, requires nutritional characteristics, since it disrupts the processes of digestion, utilization and removal of food components from the intestine.
With colitis, intestinal motility is disturbed, constipation can be interspersed with diarrhea, but it is not recommended to eat foods that improve motility in normal conditions.
Usually, in order to improve the evacuation functions of the intestines, the amount of foods from the "fiber" category is increased in the diet. But not in the case of colitis. When exactly coarse fiber plays the role of an irritating factor and can not only support existing inflammatory processes in the intestinal walls, but also provoke new injuries and foci of inflammation.
The most important thing in the diet for colitis is maintaining a balance between the fiber that the body needs so much and the exclusion of the most coarse fiber foods from the diet. It is necessary to learn how to maneuver between foods such as vegetables and fruits (rich in fiber) and mucous substances that envelop the intestinal walls and serve as a protective barrier between rough food and inflamed intestinal mucosa (cereals and starch-containing foods are rich).
The diet for colitis consists of the use of simultaneously thermally processed fiber - passaged, baked, boiled or steamed vegetables and fruits, as well as creamy products.
A prerequisite for the use of fruits and vegetables with colitis (raw, or better baked or boiled) is getting rid of the skin and small bones, which a person can usually (in a healthy state) eat. Before eating, the skin is removed from absolutely all plant products. Pomegranate seeds, grapes, gooseberries, apples and pears are eaten without seeds, gooseberries and grapes are eaten without the skin. It is permissible to eat seeds from tomatoes, eggplants, physalis, currants, figs, kiwi, feijoa, guayava. Pineapples are not recommended to be eaten, as their pulp contains coarse stem fibers. But berries with a thin skin and small bones are useful in a diet for colitis. Currants, mulberries, raspberries, strawberries, strawberries, blueberries, blackberries, cranberries, cloudberries and other berries will play the role of soft fiber, which is still necessary to regulate intestinal motility.
Tart (astringent) fruits and vegetables are not useful for the intestines in a state of colitis, for example: quince, hard pears, blackthorn berries. From fruits and vegetables without heat treatment, it is useful to eat bananas, physalis, plums, melons, watermelons, tomatoes, cucumbers. Their pulp has a creamy consistency, which has a beneficial effect on the condition of the intestines. But dried fruits, dried vegetables and fruits are not recommended to be consumed in the midst of the disease, as they have a fairly firm structure.
When treating colitis, it is advisable to avoid eating legumes and carbonated drinks, as they cause increased gas formation, which aggravates the phenomenon of flatulence during illness.
All types of cabbage are cooked, fresh salad types of cabbage are not consumed because of the hard veins in the leaves of plants. Salads are cut from boiled vegetables. Stalks of parsley, dill, celery are excluded from the diet for colitis. The diet for colitis categorically prohibits the use of such plant products as radish, radish, daikon, turnip, watercress, mustard, since the bitterness contained in these plants irritate the intestinal mucosa. Exclude caraway seeds, dill, sesame seeds and other unprocessed cereal grains, popcorn and boiled corn from the diet.
Bakery products are selected from flour of the highest grades, without coarse grinding and grain or bran additives.
Cereal cereals are extremely useful for colitis, since they play the role of both fiber and starchy substance. But it is recommended to boil porridge for colitis to a creamy state (boil it thinner and longer than the usual prescription time).
With colitis dietary food should contain soups, jelly, mashed potatoes, pates - that is, those dishes that are easy to digest and easily move through the intestines.
It is not recommended to eat mushrooms with colitis due to their long digestion. Canned vegetables and fruits are also eaten without skins and coarse grains. Despite the fact that canned vegetables have sufficient heat treatment, the spices that ennoble the taste of canned plants are harmful to the intestines in case of colitis.
The same rule applies to smoked and dried meat and fish products, the preparation of which is associated with the addition of spices, and the structure of such meat and fish products is too rigid for an inflamed intestine.
Dairy products are useful for colitis, if its course is not complicated by dysbacteriosis or lactose intolerance. In such cases, they switch to vegetable milk and products from it.
If the colitis disease is not in the acute phase or is not of a protracted chronic nature, then the dietary food is interspersed with ordinary foods.
