Coprostasis - what is it?
Systematic constipation lasting more than two days is considered a sign of another disease called "coprostasis". Situations when bowel movements are difficult or accompanied by incomplete bowel movement also fall under this diagnosis.
Signs of coprostasis are reflected in symptoms such as:
- Long delay in bowel movements,
- Bloating,
- Desire to vomit,
- Cramping pains.
Coprostasis is the result of functional disorders of the colon, a violation of peristalsis. This condition can lead to:
- The use of medicines that have a side effect in the form of constipation,
- Disruption of the innervation of the walls of the large intestine,
- Regular weight lifting,
- An improperly balanced diet (only solid foods),
- Excessive use of laxatives that reduce the tone of the intestinal walls,
- Hereditary pathologies.
Coprostasis is dangerous in that it slows down the movement of feces up to complete intestinal obstruction and contributes to the formation of fecal stones, which are removed surgically. Untimely treatment of coprostasis can provoke necrosis of the intestinal walls and excision of part of the intestine.
They try to carry out conservative treatment of coprostasis in the early stages of the disease, when the use of diet and laxatives is effective. The diet involves the introduction of slag-free foods into the diet. That is, products containing fiber should be excluded during treatment and introduced gradually, as positive results are obtained in the work of the large intestine. Fruits and vegetables, grains, bread made from rye and buckwheat flour contain fiber.
