Sweet addiction - what is the reason?
Bad habits are not innate, but despite this fact, there are many innate prerequisites for various types of addictions, for example, addiction to sweets.
Excessive cravings for sweets are not born out of nowhere, as they have several reasons that a person may not be aware of. As a rule, these reasons are directly related to the lack or excess of certain substances in the body, which are responsible for the correctness of metabolic processes, balancing the level of glucose in the body and the desire to replenish it by consuming sweets.
One of the reasons is insulin dependence. This is an important reason for the development of type 1 diabetes, which can be acquired (develops with the onset of aging of the body or as a result of the development of metabolic disorders caused by excessive consumption of carbohydrates). But dependence on insulin can also be congenital, for example, in the case when a genetic predisposition to the development of such a disorder is transmitted to a person. Due to some provoking factor, the body cannot adequately and in the required volumes produce the hormone insulin to break down glucose, and is faced with the fact of glucose starvation (energy starvation), which can manifest itself in the form of an irresistible desire to consume sugar and products containing it.
Another reason for addiction to sweets may lie in a mechanism similar to drug or alcohol addiction, when eating sweets causes a euphoric effect that you want to repeat. Dopamine is responsible for the feeling of joy, which does not stay in the body for too long, and its level gradually decreases. To prolong the effect of joy and happiness, a person begins to abuse sweets. This is a form of stress relief. But the same reason may be associated with insufficient production of dopamine in the body or a too rapid drop in its level.
The microelement Chromium is directly related to the energy of the body, as it is responsible for a certain level of glucose in the blood. Without a substance that includes Chromium, glucose cannot be absorbed by the body's cells. If there is a shortage of Chromium, then the body requires replenishing its reserves, but in a very unique way - it signals a lack of sweets, which provokes its consumption. Often, it is the lack of Chromium that is the factor that provokes excessive cravings for sweets.
Before you fight with your willpower to resist eating sweets, you need to worry about why you develop such excessive cravings for sweets. To do this, you need to check the glucose level in your body, as well as the quantitative indicators of other substances that directly or indirectly affect its level, the excess or deficiency of which may cause an irresistible addiction to sweets.
