Obsessive state - what is it?
Usually, a person controls his thinking to a certain extent, correlating his thoughts with actions or inaction. But there are states of the psyche when a person, against his will, begins to visit thoughts that lead him to actions that are unacceptable from his point of view. Persistent appearance of disturbing thoughts; frightening thoughts; thoughts that induce certain actions that contradict the usual life of a person and weigh him down; thoughts that he cannot resist, although he realizes their foreignness, speak of the development of an obsessive state (in medicine, referred to as "obsessive-compulsive disorder" or "obsessive-compulsive disorder").
The reasons for the obsessional state can lie in the experienced psychological trauma, lingering stress, chronic overwork, when the brain, accustomed to choosing from a variety of emerging ideas the most acceptable in a particular situation and approved by the person himself, begins to form ideas that contradict common sense, but are constantly born, prompting actions. Usually people notice that some idea "comes to mind" more often than others, which causes fears, unpleasant associations. If a person is led by obsessive thoughts, he begins to commit ridiculous, inappropriate actions, which later cause him painful experiences.
Obsessive thoughts can be fleeting, and can significantly change the quality of a person's life. Obsessive thoughts interfere with concentration, distract from current affairs, make you re-experience or think about any unnecessary events, tire the psyche and affect mental balance. Therefore, in cases where a person himself cannot by an effort of will protect himself from obsessive thoughts, switch his attention to other matters, the help of a specialist is required.
