Hysteria - causes and manifestations.
Hysteria as a disease of the nervous system, often develops in persons prone to neurotic disorders. Hysteria arises where there is a conflict between the personality and the environment due to excessive demands or claims to the environment that are not compatible with the requirements for oneself. Favorable conditions for the development of hysteria are desires that are incomparable with human capabilities and the lack of a critical attitude to their actions. People with hysteria are usually impressionable, hypersensitive, suggestible and have an unstable mood. Their behavior shows demonstrativeness, a desire to attract the attention of others and achieve what they want.
The manifestations of hysteria are extremely diverse, but they are based on motor, sensory, autonomic and mental disorders. Typical manifestations of hysteria are seizures with convulsions or sweeping movements (hyperkinesia), speech disorders, tissue sensitivity disorders, muscle spasms, temporary paralysis of the extremities, vascular spasms. The seizure always develops in the presence of something, while the person suffering from hysteria falls or sits down in such a way as not to inflict bodily harm on himself. This distinguishes a hysterical seizure from epileptic or convulsive seizures associated with other diseases.
Hysterical seizures never occur during sleep and do not affect the state of consciousness (there are no fainting and depressed consciousness). Hysteria is often accompanied by the inability to stand or walk; this condition develops at a time of intense emotional stress. Against the background of hysteria, writing spasm (violation of muscle activity during writing), deafness, visual impairment, and speech impairment may develop.
To correctly diagnose hysteria, it is necessary to exclude organic changes in the body, accompanied by similar symptoms.
The treatment of hysteria is always complex. It is necessary to change the psycho-emotional attitude of a person to unattainable goals, teach him to control and critically reflect on his actions. Create a supportive and minimally irritating atmosphere at home. Dosage physical and mental stress, organize a rational and healthy daily regimen. If necessary, relieve nervous tension and irritation with drugs.
