Dorsopathy - what is it?
Dorsopathy means a group of pathologies that develop as a result of degenerative changes in the spine and the surrounding soft tissues (muscles, ligaments, tendons). A feature of dorsopathies is the presence of pain syndrome (which often changes the name "dorsopathy" to "dorsalgia") and a chronic course. Dorsopathy can develop in the cervical, thoracic, lumbar spine.
Factors predisposing to the development of dorsopathy:
- Physical overloads of the musculoskeletal system,
- Sedentary lifestyle,
- Curvature of the spinal column,
- Excess body weight.
Pain in dorsopathy can be of a different nature:
- Are locally felt in the affected area and may vary depending on the position of the body,
- They can radiate from the lesion to various nearby areas and have different intensities,
- Shooting pains, aggravated by various kinds of movements,
- Pain caused by spasm or hypertonicity of the muscles, are focal in nature.
At the initial stages of development, dorsopathy may be asymptomatic or be accompanied by minor pain. In its neglected form, dorsopathy leads not only to pain in the musculoskeletal system, but also causes dizziness, headache, tinnitus, and impaired motor activity.
Dorsopathy is diagnosed based on the patient's complaints of pain syndromes and hardware examination (X-ray, MRI).
Treatment of dorsopathy includes pain relievers and limitation of mobility in the acute period, and physiotherapy exercises, massage and physiotherapy during the period of pain syndrome retreat. According to indications, nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, muscle relaxants are prescribed. Chronic dorsopathy requires a specially equipped bed with an orthopedic mattress or the purchase of an orthopedic sofa. If it is necessary to stay in a sitting position for a long time, an orthopedic chair is purchased.
