How to reduce muscle pain?
Muscle pain can have a different origin: it can be a sign of an incipient disease (for example, a viral infection or atrophic changes of a somatic nature) or be just the result of overstrain of muscle fibers as a result of physical overload (fitness, professional sports, excessive physical effort to lift and carry weights) - krepatura.
If physical overload is the likely cause of muscle pain, there are several available home remedies for treating the unpleasant syndrome.
Exercise can cause muscle pain of a rather long-term nature, therefore, postponing procedures to relieve or reduce muscle pain should not be delayed.
Usually, pain in overloaded muscle tissue manifests itself the next day after exercise and causes difficulties even with slight muscle tension. Do not overcome muscle pain and continue to load muscle tissue. On the contrary, it is a time to create conditions for muscle relaxation, which can be spent in several ways:
- Water procedures, which involve exposure of painful areas of muscle tissue to hot water at a tolerable temperature or alternating a contrast shower, will allow blood supply to increase blood flow to the area of overstrained muscles and thereby significantly reduce pain. For these purposes, spa treatments, a bath, a sauna are suitable.
- Warming compresses (ointment or alcohol) will have the same effect as hot water, but locally - exactly on the area of overstrained muscle tissue. To enhance the warming effect, I additionally wrap the area where the compress is applied with a warm cloth to keep the heat for a long time.
- Massaging the muscles in the tense area will create the effect of warming up and blood flow to the capillaries in the area of muscle fibers damaged by physical exertion.
Contrary to popular belief about the benefits of cold water in relieving muscle pain, it is worth taking into account that cold causes vasospasm, which slows down the blood supply to the injured muscle and slows down metabolic processes for its recovery. Cold is appropriate only in cases of suspected trauma, accompanied by hemorrhages, in order to slow down the course of these processes and stop capillary bleeding.
