How to deal with dust mites?
The most common allergen in your life is not a cat at all, but a dust mite.
This microscopic creature is capable of poisoning the life of almost any person, even without a history of allergic reactions. Dust mite is a saprophyte of humans and animals, it feeds on dead cells of the epithelium, is able to eat natural wool and down.
Dust mites are found in residential buildings everywhere, where there is at least minimal accumulation of dust, upholstered furniture, blankets, pillows, fabrics, bedding, clothes and shoes.
Signs of dust mite allergy persist in the absence of all familiar allergens (animals, citrus fruits, nuts, pollen, etc.):
- in the oral cavity, the mucous membrane is dry all the time, which provokes perspiration,
- the nose is stuffy, as if you have a runny nose (but not necessarily with a mucous secretion flowing from the nose), the eyes may watery and itch,
- in severe cases, conjunctivitis and attacks of asthmatic cough develop. Antiallergic drugs help only for a while, since the allergen is constantly present.
Getting rid of a dust mite is a problem, but it can be solved with the right perseverance.
The main task in the fight against dust mites is to significantly reduce the colony of insects, create unbearable conditions for them to reproduce and thereby ensure a healthy life.
To successfully combat dust mites, you need to know their weak points:
- these are ultraviolet light, sunlight or artificial sources of radiation, low temperatures, low humidity, chemical reagents, which include alkalis and salts, disinfectants and high temperatures when washing products;
- for cleaning the premises, use not just water (mites are resistant to normal flushing), but solutions of detergents (soap, powders, liquids). Wipe dusty areas with chlorine solutions once a week;
- in winter, arrange a total ventilation of the room with the removal of soft things in the frost (to the balcony, into the yard), knock out carpets and decorative pillows in the snow, collapsible upholstered furniture will not interfere with periodically freezing and treating with detergents containing alkalis;
- summer - also a period of struggle with dust mites, take out everything that can be carried in the sun (dust mites love darkness);
- install ultraviolet radiation sources in your living quarters and periodically turn it on for disinfection;
- the industry produces special chemicals to combat dust mites - acaricidal agents that affect the reproductive system of dust mites, preventing them from multiplying.
