How to fix protruding ears?
Do not worry that if you have been lying on the pillow incorrectly since childhood, spreading your ears over it, then your ears are "protruding" to the side! Lop – earedness in humans is not an acquired phenomenon, but a congenital feature of the development of the body.
Due to hereditary factors, it happens that the most inconspicuous organ, the ears, begins to attract a lot of attention, if not others, then definitely their owner. This is due to the fact that the auricles are not pressed to the head, but are located at a certain angle to it. The phenomenon is called "lop-eared" and is inherent in almost half of the population to one degree or another.
Lop-earedness does not depend on gender, but due to the fact that females prefer to wear hairstyles from hair that cover the level of the location of the auricles, it seems that lop-earedness is more common in the male half of the population. But this is not so, and as for the concern about this particular feature of the location of the ears, it is the female part of humanity that experiences it to a greater extent.
What to do if it so happens that the ears are not located like everyone else! So that people with this feature of the location of the auricle do not feel psychological discomfort, it is possible to carry out otoplasty and give the ears a classic position.
Otoplasty involves cutting the cartilage that forms the auricle (excision of the excess), and thus changing the angle of deviation of the auricle. Due to the fact that not always and not the entire auricle is "protruding" (for example, only its upper part or earlobe deviates), the operation is planned individually. The operation is not considered difficult in terms of subsequent complications, but requires high precision from the plastic surgeon.
With otoplasty, two points can be combined in one operation: change the inclination of the auricle and change the shape of the auricle if it causes psychological discomfort. Operation of correcting droopy ears is performed under local or general anesthesia. Within a month after the operation to eliminate lop-earedness, a special roller is worn to hold the ear in a new position.
The operation on the auricle is considered a minimally invasive surgical intervention, but it makes sense to carry out it no earlier than at the age of 6 years, since up to this point, due to the growth and increase in the size of the head, it may turn out that the protruding ears themselves will press closer to the head. The otoplasty operation is recommended to be carried out in childhood, so as not to form complexes in a person about his appearance.
