What to do with heavy menstrual bleeding.
If we are talking specifically about menstrual bleeding, then normally the volume of blood lost during this kind of bleeding is insignificant and should not violate the woman's health. But there are a number of cases in which menstrual bleeding takes on the nature of internal bleeding (internal uterine bleeding) with a high volume of blood loss that worsens health, and such bleeding can continue non-stop, which is quite capable of leading to hemorrhagic shock, accompanied by severe dizziness, general weakness and loss consciousness.
What to do with heavy menstrual bleeding? In cases where menstrual bleeding is accompanied by profuse bleeding, urgent medical attention is required, and before the arrival of an ambulance, it is necessary to independently take a number of measures to reduce the intensity of menstrual bleeding.
Menstrual bleeding is a special case of uterine bleeding that is cyclical and has little blood loss. But heavy menstrual bleeding is also a sign of some of the pathological processes that accompany.
Heavy menstrual bleeding can be caused by:
- overheating or sunstroke, which will raise your overall body temperature and cause more bloody discharge during your period;
- Elementary use of a heating pad in the abdomen to relieve pain symptoms or taking a hot bath during menstruation can cause a lot of blood loss during menstrual bleeding;
- hormonal disorders often cause indomitable bleeding during menstruation;
- blood clotting disorders as a result of various pathologies or side effects of drugs can cause heavy menstrual bleeding - such bleeding is the most difficult to stop, and specialized medical care will be required;
- intrauterine tumors can cause uncontrolled bleeding during menstruation (for example, fibroids have a typical symptom - cyclic bleeding);
- inflammatory diseases of the uterus and other organs of the genital area can provoke significant blood loss during menstruation;
- an undiagnosed pregnancy, accompanied by an early miscarriage and coinciding with menstruation, is a threatening sign of large blood loss during menstruation.
First aid for severe bleeding during menstruation consists of:
- in applying a cold compress with ice on the stomach (hold for 20-30 minutes, take a break for 20 minutes and keep the cold on the stomach again) in order to gain time before the ambulance arrives;
- in the ingestion of drugs that promote accelerated blood coagulation (for example, Menadione or any blood coagulants available at home (in a working first-aid kit));
- in the temporary cancellation of medicinal drugs that have the property of thinning the blood (anticoagulants), if such drugs are taken;
- in stimulating the contraction of the smooth muscles of the uterus with the help of drugs, for example, Cotarnini chloridum (take one tablet), tincture of Ergot or tincture Water pepper, 30 drops three to four times a day.
Menstrual bleeding should not be confused with bleeding during pregnancy, when the attachment of a fertilized egg has already occurred, but slight bleeding persists - in this condition, you cannot take medications or take actions related to stimulating contractions of the uterine muscles and blood coagulants, otherwise you can provoke a miscarriage yourself or create complications in the development of the fetus - before the arrival of an ambulance, only cold can be used on the abdomen.
The causes of heavy menstrual bleeding are always investigated by diagnostics and examinations, and, if necessary, a course of treatment is prescribed to prevent heavy bleeding in the menstrual period in the future.
