How to stop nosebleeds.
The nose, like any human organ, has its own system of blood vessels located in the submucous layer, but the blood supply is different in different parts of the nose. The largest blood vessels are located in the middle and posterior part of the nose (nasopharynx), where branches of fairly large arteries pass. In the anterior part of the nose there are vessels with a smaller section, but with a dense network, called the "Kisselbach plexus". Where there are blood vessels, there is the possibility of bleeding. There are many reasons for nosebleeds:
- External trauma to the nose
- Injuries to the mucous layer of the nasal cavity as a result of mechanical (trauma when cleaning the nasal cavity, when inserting a nasal catheter, when sneezing, etc.) or chemical exposure (drops for the nose, causing fragility of blood vessels, inhalation of toxic substances, excessively dry air, drying out blood vessels ),
- Violation of the integrity of the vascular wall as a result of changes in barometric pressure,
- Violation of the vascular wall during the period of increased blood pressure,
- Increased permeability of the vascular wall (blood seeps out without damage to the vessel, it sweats),
- Various etiology of the disease (atrophic changes in the structure of the walls of blood vessels, anomalies of the vascular wall or anomalies of the nasal septa, hemorrhagic syndrome, tumors, polyps, granulations, blood clotting disorders, infectious and parasitic diseases).
Not all nosebleeds are dangerous, only that which results in a large volume of blood, which is especially characteristic of bleeding from the distant parts of the nose. But any nosebleed requires certain measures to stop it.
With nosebleeds from the anterior part of the nose, there may be little blood and to stop it, it is enough to press the wings of the nose with your fingers or tampon the nasal passages. You can put a cold compress on the bridge of the nose, which will cause vasoconstriction and slow bleeding. No need to blow your nose or nose clean in bleeding time and after it stops, it will prevent blood clots and lengthen the process of blood stops or provoke rebleeding.
You cannot throw your head back with nosebleeds of any intensity or take a horizontal position, the blood cannot be stopped in this way, it will only change the direction of the flow, but it is quite possible to choke with intense bleeding.
For capillary nosebleeds, 5-7 minutes are enough for it to stop, but if the blood continues to flow, then you should take care of calling an ambulance, because prolonged bleeding may be the result of a rupture of a large-section vessel or be a symptom of a bleeding disorder, and in such cases without qualified assistance is indispensable. If a large enough vessel is damaged, the doctor or paramedic will perform a posterior nasal tamponade. It is not recommended to engage in such manipulations on your own, you can not only not stop the bleeding, but also inflict additional injury on yourself.
In case of nosebleeds, special attention should be paid to the symptoms accompanying such bleeding: headache, dizziness, double vision, flashing "flies" before the eyes, nausea, cold extremities. Such symptoms may indicate that the causes of nosebleeds have a health hazard.Read
