What is a rod calluses?
The rod calluses has an unusual appearance for recognition. This is a flat seal on the skin (cap) of a round (sometimes funnel-shaped), in the center with a depression (rod), tightened by the skin. The core is similar in consistency to cartilage and goes into the thickness of the skin. Regardless of the depth of immersion of the rod, the callus is quite painful.
The most common locations for rod calluses are between the toes (where one toe touches the other), on the soles of the feet (on the heel or under the pads of the toes), and between the toes (where tools often touch the finger and create chronic pressure on the phalanx). It has been noticed that most often the callus is located on the legs.
Reasons for the formation of rod calluses:
- are associated with intermittent injury or pressure on a limited area of the skin (for example, when wearing tight shoes or a shoe that is too stiff and uncomfortable),
- are the result of the effects of a dermatotropic virus, when keratinized areas are formed on the skin as a result of increased division, under which the rod is formed.
Self-directed mechanical removal of rod calluses is a problematic and almost impossible task. At home, it is impossible to find such tools that it would be possible to remove the rod from the thickness of the skin and at the same time not get a deep wound or not infect the place where the callus was removed. You can try to cut off the cornice with nail tweezers, grabbing the tissue to a certain depth available for bloodless cutting, but a successful result will be only if the core is not located deep, otherwise it will remain in the thickness of the skin, overgrow and the problem will resume.
In beauty parlors, they offer several methods for removing rod calluses :
- Carefully drill out the core with minimal damage to the tissues adjacent to the callus with a thin cutter, treat the place where the core was removed with antiseptics.
- Remove by laser. This is a bloodless method that does not require additional antiseptics.
- Remove by cryodestruction with liquid nitrogen. This method allows you to exfoliate keratinized tissue.
If it is impossible to use the services of a cosmetology office, you can try to get rid of painful sensations by steaming the place of formation of a callus (bath or lotion) and then applying ointments or creams with a softening effect on the skin. Pharmacies sell special products for removing dry corns containing salicylic acid or other similar components, which can also be used after steaming.
The treatment of rod calluses must be timely, especially when it comes to the legs, since the painful sensations change gait, bend the foot and overload the joints of the legs. For the subsequent prevention of the appearance of a callus, it is necessary to choose the right shoes so that the toes do not press on each other, and high heels alternate with shoes with low soles. An inconvenient last is not worth any external dazzling appearance of the shoe, therefore, when choosing shoes, you should pay attention to the convenience of the last. If corn kernels appear on the hands, then the best way to prevent it is to wear special protective gloves when working with tools.
