Eyelashes began to fall out.
Eyelashes, like hair, grow in three stages, the last of which ends in eyelash loss. The average lifespan of an eyelash is up to six months. So the loss of a pair of cilia is not a disease, but a natural change in their life cycle. But it often happens that eyelashes began to fall out in large quantities, and their loss does not have time to be replaced by the growth of new eyelashes. This is already a sign of pathology.
To understand what can be an unnatural cause of eyelash loss, you need to know which factors affect the health of the follicles:
- Avitaminosis (vitamin A and group B);
- Endocrine disorders (especially hypothyroidism);
- Population of the skin with a parasite - the Demodex mite;
- Infection of the eyelids with pathogenic bacteria (staphylococcus aureus);
- Viral infections (herpes);
- Poor-quality cosmetics (creams, makeup remover milk, mascara, eyeliner, pencil) containing toxic substances that destroy the follicle;
- Weighting eyelashes in various ways (thick mascara, glitter, eyelash extensions);
- Poor eyelid skin care (poor-quality washing, makeup not removed at night) clogs the follicles, disrupting their condition and causing inflammation.
To cope with the loss of eyelashes, it is necessary to gradually eliminate the most possible traumatic and pathogenic factors:
- Give up all types of cosmetics for a month. Even very expensive cosmetics can cause an allergic reaction on the skin of the eyelids.
- Make an analysis for the content of parasites or pathogenic microorganisms in the skin of the eyelids. When an infectious agent is detected, a dermatologist will prescribe adequate treatment: antiparasitic, antibacterial or antiviral (depending on which of the microorganisms is detected).
- Deal with endocrine disorders with an endocrinologist and receive appropriate treatment.
- Carry out vitamin therapy as the prevention of vitamin deficiency.
At home, eyelash loss can be treated:
- From demodicosis - Metrogyl gel (0.1%) gently, avoiding contact with the inner part of the eyelid, apply to the area of eyelash growth and follow the prescribed course of treatment (treatment is carried out with the specified diagnosis of “demodicosis”).
- From blepharitis - carry out in accordance with the diagnosis "blepharitis" and the identified bacterial strains.
- For herpetic lesions of the eyelids, take antiherpetic drugs (Acyclovir) and use the appropriate eyelid ointment (antiviral eye drops).
- Provided that bacteria, viruses, parasites are absent, apply on the eyelids with keratoplastic preparations (sea buckthorn oil) and warm baths with chamomile and a series (do baths with your eyes closed so as not to injure the sclera).
