Asperger syndrome - what is it?
Asperger syndrome is a pathology of childhood, which is characterized by difficult social connections and there is an addiction to the same type of activities and interests. With Asperger syndrome, cognitive abilities of the psyche and verbal communication are not lost. Asperger syndrome refers to autistic disorders, but it differs from autism in the absence of speech delay and the ability to use speech for communication, the absence of mental retardation.
Until now, the circumstances of the development of this disorder remain unclear, but it is believed that the causes lie in a congenital disorder of brain functions.
Signs of Asperger syndrome:
- Unwillingness to establish speech and other communication links (meet eyes, change facial expressions, use gestures) with peers or other people;
- Lack of interest in other people;
- Lack of emotional manifestations;
- Stereotypical movements (with hands or with the whole body);
- Deep and constant focus on one lesson;
- Attention is absorbed by individual details of objects;
- The ability to self-service and curiosity, directed to the outside world, but not to people, remain.
Treatment of Asperger syndrome is aimed at improving the patient's quality of life and includes teaching communication skills, forcing the establishment of contacts with people around them by building dialogues. Learning approaches are established individually based on patient observation.
Medicines are used in the treatment of Asperger's syndrome only with the aim of eliminating concomitant diseases (for example, neuroses, depression, decreased attention, aggressiveness).
The prognosis of the disease "Asperger syndrome" with due persistence in correction is favorable. With age, a person acquires minimal social and communication skills that allow him to be in society.
