Cosmetic concentrate - how to use a cosmetic serum.
Among the many cosmetic preparations of various consistencies and chemical composition, it is sometimes difficult to choose a suitable product due to the fact that all these products have different mechanisms of local action on the skin and on the body as a whole. One of the forms of existence of cosmetic products - cosmetic concentrate or serum, significantly differs in its properties and mechanism of action on the skin from other cosmetic products.
Initially the invention of serum was directly related to the treatment of burns of the skin and mucous membranes. The serum was quickly absorbed into the affected area of the skin or mucous membrane, and healed the burn injury.
But further experiments with the chemical composition of the serum made it possible to turn the burn remedy into a full-fledged cosmetic product with many cosmetic and health effects. It turned out that the serum substance modified according to the chemical formula can, in addition to regenerating the skin and mucous membranes after burns, also:
- reduce skin creases (wrinkles),
- restore complexion and improve its health,
- saturate the skin with useful nutrients.
So the remedy for burns has become a popular and effective means of "beauty".
Unlike a creamy product, serum contains higher levels of biologically active components, from which one of its most popular names, cosmetic concentrate, comes from.
For comparison, in a cream of the same chemical composition, the amount of substances that restore the elasticity of the skin is 10%, in serum - 50%. If we are talking about herbal cosmetic preparations, then herbal extracts in the composition of the cream occupy 30% of the total volume, in the serum they are close to 100%.
The high concentration of biologically active substances in the serum has led to the fact that the expected effects from the use of the cosmetic product began to have the target effect faster and more efficiently: relieve inflammation, increase skin turgor, nourish with useful components, restore pigment, or vice versa - remove pigment.
The serum remains a therapeutic agent in cases where it is necessary to treat the skin for acne, relieve inflammation from sunburn, moisturize and saturate the skin with useful substances to increase its elasticity, rehabilitate the skin from aggressive external influences (chapping, irritation from salt baths after swimming in salt water, frostbite, overdrying, injury from chemically active components of cosmetics, and much more).
Usually a cosmetic concentrate (serum) has a specific chemical composition of narrow application, that is, each specific cosmetic concentrate in its composition contains one or two active substances with a narrow profile effect, that is, serum (cosmetic concentrate) is not a universal remedy for all cases when the skin requires rehabilitation.
The liquid consistency of the serum allows the product to be quickly absorbed in a large volume - in such a way that the cream is not able to be absorbed into the skin.
Serum is not a daily skin care product, as it contains highly active concentrated substances that are not always necessary for the skin, but only during periods of its recovery. For this reason, cosmetic serum is used in courses of two to three months, then a break is taken, and then the next course of serum is used to solve the next problem of the skin or mucous membranes. The course can last from 10-15 days with a break of 10-15 days. And repeat for, for example, two months, two to three times. Then they take a long break of several months and then use a serum for another purpose.
It must be remembered that the layer of mucous membrane absorbs substances even faster than the skin. For this reason, the volume of serum is dosed taking into account the place of application: for the skin in a larger volume, for the mucous membrane - in a smaller volume.
What directions of cosmetological problems are solved by the use of a cosmetic serum (cosmetic concentrate):
- Treatment of inflammation caused by Acne (or other forms of acne).
- Restoration and treatment of skin with folliculitis eruptions.
- Skin restoration after traumatic shaving or epilation.
- Restoration of the skin in the period of wilting.
- Restoration of the skin after pigmentation disorders, or vice versa, removing unnecessary pigment.
- Skin restoration after chapping, sunburn, traumatic cosmetic procedures, after drying out.
- Restoration of skin trophism (capillary blood supply).
Serums differ not only in the direction of action, but also in age periods and restrictions. There are sera for the 20 year age and there are also sera for the 40 year age. The gradation of age periods and their accompanying restrictions requires professional advice and recommendations from a cosmetologist on the choice of a specific type of serum.
There are a number of contraindications to the use of a cosmetic concentrate (serum), which have a categorical prohibition on the use of serum:
- on the skin with diseases of a dystrophic nature,
- for skin with allergic reactions to serum components - preliminary tests are carried out on safe areas of the skin,
- for skin affected by telangiectasias (spider veins), cosmetic concentrates are categorically contraindicated (stimulate the growth of the vascular network),
- serums are categorically contraindicated for skin with dark pigment, as they change the pigment, causing a persistent inhomogeneity of skin color (spotting),
- do not use serum close to the area of skin outgrowths (moles, papillomas, nevus , birthmarks and other skin defects associated with its hypertrophic growth or degradation).
As with any cosmetic product, serum (cosmetic concentrate) has drawbacks in its use associated with the danger of overdose, short shelf life, as well as highly specialized use. But the serum has many advantages: quickness of effect achievement, lasting effect, ease of use, variety of application possibilities (applications, injections, layer-by-layer application simultaneously with other care products, day and evening use, express use for a short time). During the course of use, the serum is used once a day (morning or evening) or twice a day (morning and evening). The choice of the mode of application of the serum sets the purpose of using the product, the seasonality and temperature regime of the environment, the state of the skin and the planned speed of solving the problem.
Since serums (cosmetic concentrates) are more related to medicines, and not to skin care products (or rather, they refer to medical cosmetic products), when choosing a specific type of serum, it makes sense to consult with a dermatologist about the safety of the consequences after using the serum. A cosmetologist may not have extensive knowledge in the field of skin diseases and their treatment In this case, and serums should not conflict with preparations intended for the treatment of skin diseases in the area of the skin to which the serums (cosmetic concentrates) will be applied.
