Couperosis , or the more scientific term "telangiectasia", is a violation of the mechanism of vascular tone of superficial blood vessels, manifested as a steady expansion of the diameter of the lumen of small vessels of the skin up to 1 mm. Acquired couperosis manifests itself either as a symptom of the disease (rosacea, scleroderma, lupus erythematosus, chronic venous insufficiency, and others), or as a result (side effect) of certain skin diseases or bad habits (alcohol consumption), or it can occur with excessive exposure to too low or too high temperatures on the skin, or is the result of abuse of cosmetic procedures (especially traumatic effects).

All methods pursue the goal of cutting off blood vessels from the general circulatory system and their disappearance.

Electrocoagulation is a procedure for cauterization of dilated or burst vessels using hair electrodes (it has side effects - scars or pigmentation).

Laser coagulation - well suited for deeply located vessels. The laser is selected individually depending on the clinical picture (it has side effects when the type of laser is incorrectly selected - scars, burns, hematomas, new vascular growths). The most modern types of lasers are CO2, argon, neodymium and Dye lasers. The best effect is given by lasers with yellow or green radiation. This spectrum is absorbed by blood vessels, and not by nearby tissues.

Sclerotherapy - can have severe side effects in the form of sclerosant embolism of the vessels of the lungs, heart, and brain.

Cryodestruction (cryotherapy) - liquid nitrogen is used to destroy blood vessels using low temperatures (-80C). The advantages of this method are the absence of anesthesia, minimal skin trauma.

Prevention of couperosis.

The skin prone to couperosis requires particularly gentle care. You should abandon traumatic cosmetic manipulations (peeling, use of scrubs).
