Removal of hemangioma.

The best period for hemangioma removal is considered to be early childhood (infancy), since during this period its small size allows you to get rid of hemangioma using simple, minimally invasive methods: cryodestruction, laser removal, electrocoagulation, radio knife. All of these methods are practically bloodless, do not traumatize tissues to a large extent, and allow extensive scars to be avoided.

There are non-surgical methods for the treatment of hemangiomas: radiation therapy, embolization, hormone therapy.

With targeted irradiation of hemangiomas, the least safe method of radiation therapy is used - the use of radioisotopes, which are injected into the vessels of the hemangioma. This method is effective for superficial hemangiomas with a depth of no more than 3 centimeters. The procedure has a good cosmetic effect.

Hemangioma embolization (endovascular hemangioma embolization) involves the injection of a sclerosing substance into the hemangioma vessels, which fills the lumens and glues the vessels, stopping their growth.

Hormonal treatment of hemangiomas involves the use of corticosteroids, which inhibit the growth of the hemangioma and promote its regression and disappearance.

There is a clinically malignant growth of hemangiomas, which is characterized by subcutaneous deposits of the vascular bundle (minimally exposed to the surface, the bulk of the vascular bundle is located in the thickness of the tissues), its rapid growth and location in anatomically complex areas of the neck, face, and behind the ear. In such cases, an extensive surgical intervention is performed, followed by plastic surgery of the skin, replacing the tissue defect after removal.

Tissue plasty is also performed in cases when the removal of the hemangioma is delayed, and its scale has increased the volume of the occupied area, and hence the scale of tissue excision. A skin graft for the restoration of tissues of the facial region (head, neck) is usually taken from areas of the skin corresponding to the quality of the skin.

The diagnosis and selection of a method for removing hemangioma is carried out with preliminary recommendations and the participation of a vascular surgeon and a plastic surgeon.
