How to help with a Scorpion bite?
The bite of the Scorpion insect is one of the deadly poisonings caused by organic poisons, since the Scorpion venom is a neurotoxic substance that disrupts the functioning of the central nervous system and the cardiovascular system.
If it happens that a Scorpion has bitten, then the first thing you need to do is provide first aid to the bitten person (pet) and take him to a medical facility where there is an antidote to Scorpion toxin or emergency drug therapy.
There are several treatments that can be used to help with a Scorpion bite to ease the victim's condition until professional medical assistance is provided.
It happens that when a Scorpion bites, it leaves a sting with a venom bubble in the wound. If the Scorpion bite does not cause swelling of the tissue around the skin puncture, then most likely the venom bubble may not have burst right away. For this reason, it is necessary to remove the sting with great care, without breaking the bubble's tightness. If you do not have the skills to remove a sting, then it is better to leave this procedure to specialists. But if the bite occurred, for example, in a dream or under other circumstances that led to the ingress of poison into the tissue, then the bite site typically swells and hurts, and the swelling begins to quickly spread to neighboring tissues (for example, to the entire limb), and the pain spreads over the entire area occupied by the swelling. At the same time, the bitten person begins to feel overexcitation of the nervous system (excessive nervousness). Against the background of spreading swelling around the Scorpion bite, a person may experience symptoms typical of neurotoxic effects:
- dizziness,
- headache,
- vomit,
- imbalance of limb movements,
- paresthesia ,
- convulsions.
- When a person is affected by Scorpio's poison, their general well-being is greatly impaired and a loss of strength is felt.
If it becomes clear that it was a Scorpion that bit you, then it is necessary to take several actions before the ambulance arrives, which will alleviate the condition of the bitten person.
The wound is washed with ammonia diluted five times or a 70% solution of medical alcohol. Until professional medical assistance is provided, the victim must be kept in a state of complete rest for at least 6 hours (do not move limbs, do not move, do not sit down, don’t turn from side to side). Take an antihistamine tablet.
The most dangerous bite is the bite of the Black Scorpion (Fat-Tailed Scorpion) and several other species of Scorpions, which are much larger in size than their fellows. Large species of Scorpions have a larger amount of poison in the gland, which determines the survival of the bitten person. The larger size of the person, the less risk of dying from a Scorpion bite, for this reason, Scorpion bites are very dangerous for children and pets. Some poisons of deadly Scorpions have highly toxic properties. In such cases, only emergency medical care will help.
When choosing an antidote for Scorpio venom, it is important what kind of Scorpion caused the bite. Therefore, it is necessary to ask the person what the Scorpion that bit him looked like. In cases where the appearance of the Scorpio that bit is unknown (for example, the bite occurred while the person was sleeping or under other circumstances), the medical institution will conduct drug therapy - a number of drugs that slow down the action of the neurotoxin or cancel it.
Meeting a Scorpion is almost always dangerous. In nature, in open areas, a Scorpio can hide under stones, under the bark of fallen trees and rotten stumps, under dry fallen leaves, in cracks in stonework, burrow into sand and dry earth. But a Scorpion is also dangerous within residential premises, as it easily crosses thresholds and window openings, can quietly climb into the folds of clothing, bed linen, into cracks between sofa cushions, into the folds of curtains and similar secluded places, where it waits for prey - a person or a pet.
While on holiday in an area where Scorpion habitats are known, in order to be careful and prevent a Scorpion bite, you must follow several rules:
- Wear high lace-up boots with your pant legs tucked in so that the insect cannot climb up your pant leg and reach exposed areas of your body.
- Wear shoes that fit tightly to the foot, preferably with a high top.
- When entering a room, it is necessary to inspect clothes, bed linen, decorative bedspreads, pillows, and also remove sofa cushions for inspection.
- In the kitchen and kitchen cabinets, carefully look through boxes and bags of food, folds of tablecloths and table napkins.
- Carefully look through loosely closed boxes containing small items or toys.
Being mindful of your surroundings and living space can prevent a Scorpion bite.
