Signs of mercury poisoning.
A person most often encounters mercury in domestic conditions, breaking a thermometer or a fluorescent lamp. In addition, mercury compounds can accumulate in seafood. And if a person's professional activity is not associated with chemical production that uses mercury, then it is extremely problematic to get poisoned by it. But it is necessary to know the signs of mercury poisoning, since you never know where danger lies in wait for you.
The symptoms of mercury poisoning (rather, mercury vapor) are specific and may not develop instantly:
- The general condition of the body deteriorates - weakness appears, headache, nausea develops, urge to vomit is possible;
- There is a metallic taste in the mouth;
- Difficulty swallowing reflex;
- The oral mucosa swells and begins to bleed;
- Pain syndrome develops in the intestines and a disorder of the intestines (diarrhea) occurs - the presence of blood in the feces may be observed;
- The temperature rises (up to thirty-eight degrees and above);
- Shortness of breath appears.
Mercury poisoning can be acute or chronic: it depends on the concentration of mercury vapor in the atmosphere surrounding the person. In acute mercury poisoning, signs of poisoning develop rapidly, while chronic poisoning is characterized by the gradual development (several months) of clinical symptoms.
To establish exactly whether poisoning with mercury vapor has occurred, a urine test for its content will help.
