Can lordosis of the spine be corrected?
The vertebral column along its entire length has several bends, which allow, when standing upright, to distribute the load evenly between all parts of the spine.
Sometimes, in the lumbar region, the vertebral skeleton bends more than the load conditions require, which causes pain syndromes, can provoke compression of the intervertebral discs, improper load on the rest of the spine. Excessive bending of the spine in the lumbar spine is called lordosis.
Signs of lordosis are noticeable externally by a change in the position of the chest and shoulder girdle protruding forward, the pelvic region laid back, knees deviating to the sides.
Lordosis is primary - it is an independent disease that manifests itself in childhood and is associated with anomalies in the structure of the lumbar spine, with dislocations of the hip joint and with other similar birth defects.
Secondary lordosis is a consequence of other diseases: inflammatory processes in the spine and adjacent tissues, injuries of the spinal column, improper posture, excess weight, tumors of the lumbar spine, osteochondrosis of the lumbar spine, large abdomen, pulling the spine anteriorly, bending the spinal column pathologically.
Correction of lordosis of the spine is possible subject to the methodical implementation of exercises specially designed to correct curvature of the spine, massage of the lumbar spine, change in body position during sedentary work, wearing a bandage to hold the abdomen in a strictly defined shape.
The set of exercises is designed to straighten the lumbar spine:
- Stand near the wall, touching it with the back of your head, heels and buttocks. At the same time, try to reduce the distance between the wall and the waist.
- In the supine position, try to bend in such a way as to bring the lumbar part of the body closer to the floor surface.
- Bends from a standing position with straightened legs, try to touch the floor with your hands.
- In a prone position, raise your legs and try to bring them behind your head.
Treatment of lordosis of the spine requires long-term work on oneself, posture control while standing and sitting. During the treatment of lordosis, pain relievers are prescribed, symptomatic therapy (anti-inflammatory drugs, chondroprotectors to restore cartilage tissue) is prescribed, the underlying disease is treated if it has caused the development of lordosis.
