The consequences of scoliosis.
Scoliosis is a curvature of the spine in the thoracic or lumbar spine. Like any other curvature of a part of the skeleton, scoliosis does not pass without leaving a trace for the overall health of the body. What are the consequences of scoliosis?
Scoliosis of 1-2 degrees does not affect the health of the body in any way, with the exception of poor posture. Scoliosis of 3-4 degrees can cause asymmetry of the body (drooping of the shoulder, bulging of the scapula, distortion of the waist line). This asymmetry can cause an incorrect distribution of muscle load on the spinal column, which contributes to fatigue of the back muscles, low endurance of those muscle groups that are involved in the curvature of the spine.
Scoliosis of the lumbar spine can cause compression of nerve fibers, displacement of intervertebral discs, and muscle spasms. The formation of a muscle corset with scoliosis of 3-4 degrees also occurs with flaws, which can cause pain symptoms that are similar in sensations to neuralgia.
Scoliosis of 3-4 degrees of the thoracic region changes the volume of the lungs, reducing it due to deformation of the chest (problems with a deep breath may occur). Deformation of the chest, in turn, can put pressure on the myocardium, cause congestion in the gallbladder, bronchi or lungs.
Scoliosis is a progressive disease of the spine and, for this reason, requires methodical therapeutic measures to prevent further curvature of the spinal column.
