Are meat products healthy or not?
Meat is an integral part of a balanced diet according to many nutritionists, as this product contains a high concentration of the vital trace element Iron, a rare vitamin B 12 and a protein component, which is a building block for the human body.
But almost all nutritionists adhere to the scientific position that in a normalized diet, the abuse of meat is not good for health, despite the fact that meat products are considered healthy.
There are several rules in the use of meat foods, which, depending on their observance, give a positive or negative health effect from eating meat.
- Firstly, meat must be cooked properly so that its beneficial properties are not nullified.
- Secondly, for the use of meat products there is a certain time of day when they do not harm digestion.
- Thirdly, the amount of meat consumed at a time matters for the health of the body in general, and for the digestive system in particular.
- Fourthly, the consumption of meat products in a certain amount during the day plays a big role in the utilization of this food product with health benefits.
Proper preparation of meat products can save a person from many potentially harmful factors leading to illness. Insufficiently thermally processed meat (for example, a steak with blood, or underdone grilled chicken, or underdone meat skewers) has every chance of causing salmonella or helminthiasis. Excessively fried meat can become a source of substances with carcinogenic properties, which are formed during prolonged frying. Moderate frying of meat products, baking them in the oven, boiling or steaming is considered correct. Such gentle methods of cooking meat products retain their beneficial properties and do not give rise to biochemical reactions that are contrary to the healthy functioning of the body. You can enjoy barbecue, salmon, smoked meats as an exception and not too often.
Meat dishes have a significant calorie content due to the high protein content, even if the meat is considered lean. A cooked piece of meat weighing 3.5 ounces can satisfy hunger for half a day, as meat products are digested for a long time (from one to five hours, depending on the type of meat and how it is cooked). It is appropriate to consume meat products in the morning and during the daytime (or five to six hours before bedtime). Meat is a valuable energy product, so it must be consumed before planned loads (but not sports loads) in order to create an energy source for the body. Do not forget that it is useful to eat meat in cold seasons, as it sets the body's heat exchange .
The total amount of meat per day is considered the maximum norm - no more than 7 ounces. But depending on personal diets and personal health, this limit can drop to 2.4 ounces per day. 7 ounces per day of meat products should include a predominance of light meats (chicken breasts, turkey fillet, fish, rabbit) and a small amount of heavy meats (pork, beef, lamb). The total daily norm of meat is divided into several meals (for example, a sandwich in the morning, a snack in the lunch or a lunchtime meat dish).
Despite the fact that a person needs protein food every day, it is recommended to alternate meat dishes with vegetable protein dishes during the week. You can allocate days to eat only fish products or only plant foods rich in proteins (legumes, cereals, nuts). Meat products are easier to digest if they are supplemented with vegetable fiber (vegetable, fruit or berry salads, cereals), that is, those foods that contain components in their composition that the body will not absorb and will quickly remove as toxins.
Potatoes and yam are too high in calories to be combined with meat, for this reason it is better to divide dishes with these products according to the time of consumption. Mushrooms do not go well with meat, since they are not inferior to it in terms of the duration of digestion, and this must be taken into account in the preparation of meat dishes.
It is useful to eat meat in broths, but it is cooked in two approaches: the first broth is poured after five minutes of boiling, since a significant part of the harmful substances is boiled into it, and the second broth with meat is used as an independent dish or a basis for making soups.
Meat dishes have many advantages, but there are also disadvantages. Along with useful substances, meat, as a protein structure, contains a lot of purines and creatine, which impair kidney function and retain fluid in the body. Therefore, meat and food plants, which include purines (for example, spinach or sorrel), are not combined in cooking. Meat contains cholesterol, which in its excess worsens the condition of blood vessels. This is another reason not to abuse this food product. Poorly digested meat causes colitis, bloating and constipation, that is, it loads the digestive tract with unpleasant and painful phenomena.
Excessive consumption of meat leads to the development of many diseases, but its rational consumption is a great support to health.
