Why is the skin on the elbows peeling?
Very often, the condition of the skin in the elbow area becomes a problem, but in order to find a solution, it is necessary to understand the reasons for the changes in the skin on the elbows. There may be several reasons.
The first and most common reason is a chronic trauma to the skin on the elbow, when they rely on it: constant friction and stress on the skin in the elbow area, which is devoid of fat and is not sufficiently moisturized, since it does not contain either sebaceous or sweat glands, cause darkening of the skin , roughness, peeling, and sometimes cracking.
The second, no less common reason is vitamin deficiency or hypovitaminosis, which develops due to insufficient intake of vitamin A , vitamin E or B vitamins into the body .;p>
The third fairly common cause is a developing dermatological disease. Peeling skin on the elbows can be caused by psoriasis, eczema, neurodermatitis, various types of lichen and many other skin diseases, the typical symptom of which is increased keratinization of the skin.
The fourth reason that cannot be discounted is an allergic reaction that develops on its own or as part of a disease, for example, atopic dermatitis.
The fifth reason for problem skin on the elbows is endocrine disorders, which can be identified by consulting an endocrinologist.
It is possible to correct the condition of the skin on the elbows by methodically checking the reasons and sifting out unconfirmed ones. It is necessary to start with the simplest skin care procedures for the elbow area. To do this, use a hot bath with the infusion of the series, in which you keep your elbow daily. The string has anti-inflammatory and wound healing effects. After steaming the skin in a herbal infusion bath, lubricate the skin of the elbows with a cream of increased fat content. To do this, you can use a greasy hand cream, a greasy face night cream, or any other greasy cream that is available. You should not use vegetable oils (sunflower, olive, etc., due to the fact that they are poorly absorbed).
If within one to two weeks the skin has not acquired a normal state, then go to plan "B" - we take the vitamins listed above. In parallel, it does not hurt to check with a dermatologist for mycosis (fungal infection, which becomes a very common cause of peeling and darkening of the skin on the elbows). It is possible to fight the fungus on its own, but it is not always possible to guess without laboratory identification of the type of fungus which antimycotic ointment will be effective.
When examining for the presence of a fungal infection, a dermatologist will simultaneously diagnose dermatological diseases of a different etiology, and may reveal the presence of one of the skin diseases, accompanied by keratinization of the skin, but this is also fixable, since there are many ointments, when using which (of course, with the recommendation of a doctor) peeling, crusts, scales can be removed. You should not experiment with skin ointments on your own, because most of them contain corticosteroids, after the use of which, many diseases on the skin may not respond to treatment, with the exception of those diseases that are designed to treat corticosteroids.
As a result, if the baths and creams, the services of a dermatologist and taking vitamins did not help, then you need to be examined by an allergist or endocrinologist, who will help identify a disease that smolders in the body and spoils the appearance of the skin.
