Rogaining - what is it?
Of all the types of physical activity that a person can choose for himself on his own, rogaining is considered the most attractive. This is a team sport that combines sports and outdoor activities. The goal of rogaining is to train physical endurance as in CrossFit, but rogaining also develops skills in orientation in unfamiliar terrain and adaptation to wildlife conditions.
Rogaining is carried out in a competitive mode, when for a certain period of time (from several hours to a day) it is necessary, guided by the map, to reach the marked points, collect the marks and return to the base camp. Points are awarded on a floating scale and depend on the severity of the route to the selected points. Rogaining is not a high-speed sport, so points are awarded not for the duration of the route, but for the complexity of the route itself.
The main condition for passing the route is the use of a limited number of navigation devices (compass, clock, whistle, flashlight). Satellite receivers, cell phones, walkie-talkies and other technological devices with navigation are not used in competitions. This gives the sport of rogaining a touch of adventure, when, in an unfamiliar area and, armed only with practical knowledge of the peculiarities of nature, a person hones the skill of survival. A first aid kit and a supply of water are a necessary piece of equipment, but participants do not take food with them. There is always the opportunity to interrupt the route, return to camp, have a snack and resume the competition.
Rogaining teams are selected from two to five people from people of all ages. In rogaining competitions, only men's or women's teams can participate, as well as teams of a mixed type. The routes are laid by a trailblazer - an instructor who is well familiar with the terrain, he also leaves marks that will collect teams. The same instructor will go to rescue the lost team if necessary.
There are no restrictions on seasonality and weather conditions for rogaining. In this sport, cycling, skiing or boating are permissible (sometimes water rogaining and land rogaine). Rogaining assumes a certain type of equipment designed for all-weather conditions, since day and night temperatures can change, as well as changes in weather conditions during the day (rain, snow, wind, scorching sun) are possible. Rogaining participants carry spare clothes on themselves, which creates additional physical activity.
For rogaining, as a rule, areas are selected that have been tested for the absence of dangerous animals. The most attractive are those areas that are teeming with a changing landscape.
Rogaining got its name from the names of its Australian founders: Rod Phillips, Gail Davis and Neil Phillips (RoGaiNe). This type of sports competition is very common in countries with interesting landscapes: Australia, New Zealand, Russia, Canada, USA. Rogaining is not just a sport, it is an alternative to tourism and good rest for those who love nature.
