Bacteriophages coliprotein and coliproteophage.
What is a coliprotein bacteriophage?
The bacteriophage coliprotein is used to treat infections caused by the pathogens Escherichia coli, Proteus mirabilis and Proteus vulgaris.
This type of bacteriophage is represented by phagolysates of the above bacterial strains, which have a specific lysis of pathogenic bacteria, due to which they destroy them. For the effective use of a coliprotein bacteriophage, it is necessary to first carry out phage typing of bacterial strains for which the bacteriophage will be used.
Coliprotein bacteriophage is intended for the treatment of enterocolitis and enteric infectious diseases, colpitis, salpingo-oophoritis, endometritis, cystitis, pyelonephritis, pyelitis and other diseases caused by strains of Escherichia coli bacteria, Pr. vulgaris and Pr. mirabilis.
Coliprotein bacteriophage is used orally, topically, intravaginally, rectally.
The rules for using the bacteriophage suggest its use at different ages, starting from birth, but up to 6 months, coliprotein bacteriophage is prescribed in a single dose of 5 ml an hour and a half before feeding. From 6 months to three years, it is prescribed in a single dose of 10 ml (or 15 ml). From three to eight years - in a single dose of 15 ml (or 20 ml). From eight years old and adults - in a single dose of 20 ml (or 30 ml).
The bacteriophage is used one and a half to two hours before a meal (on an empty stomach) two to three times a day, corresponding to the age single dose.
For prophylaxis, coliprotein bacteriophage is prescribed once every three days in the amount of a single dose according to age.
Since coliprotein bacteriophage is a liquid (solution of phagolysates), it is convenient to use it in the following ways:
- Drink a single dose,
- pipette into hard-to-reach places,
- irrigate infected surfaces,
- administer enemas (rectal doses are twice as high as oral),
- plug the cavities with moistened turundas.
Coliprotein bacteriophage is sold in 100 ml vials (these are 5 single doses of 20 ml, or 10 single doses of 10 ml, or 3.3 single doses of 30 ml).
What is a coliproteophage?
Coliproteophage is the same coliprotein bacteriophage, but released in the form of enteric-coated tablets. It is intended for the treatment of intestinal infections with bacteria: Escherichia coli (E. Coli), Proteus mirabilis (Pr.mirabilis), Proteus vulgaris (Pr. Vulgaris). Coliproteophage is taken orally 1 tablet 3 or 4 times a day for an hour and a half before meals on an empty stomach.
Coliprotein and coliproteophage bacteriophages have no contraindications, are combined with any drugs, including antibiotics, have no side effects, except for individual intolerance. Bacteriophages are not consumed after the expiration date or when the bacteriophage solution becomes cloudy or has sediment. The course of treatment is seven to ten days, then it can be repeated after a period of time determined by the doctor (for example, as a prophylaxis).
