Salmonella bacteriophage.
Salmonella bacteriophage: Latin name bacteriophagum salmonellae A, B, C, D, E, liquidum (groups A, B, C, D, E). Salmonella bacteriophage drug belongs to the group of immunobiological drugs.
The bacteriophage preparation is available in liquid form and in the form of tablets with an acid-resistant shell, intended for oral administration (oral, rectal (in liquid form)). From the first day of salmonellosis disease (or during the period of Salmonella bacteria carriage), the salmonella bacteriophage preparation is taken by mouth (orally) on an empty stomach one hour before a meal for five to ten days in dosages appropriate for age:
- Infants up to six months of age - 5 milliliters of the drug (one dose) two to three times,
- From 6 months to one year - 10-15 milliliters of the drug (one dose) two to three times a day,
- From one year to three years - 15-20 milliliters of the drug (one dose) two to three times or 1 tablet two to three times a day,
- From three to eight years - 20 - 30 milliliters of the drug (one dose) two to three times or 2 tablets two to three times a day,
- From the age of eight and older - 30-40 milliliters of the drug (one dose) two to three times or 2-4 tablets two to three times a day.
In the presence of colitis syndrome during the period of the disease, accompanied by cramping pain in the abdomen (intestines), sterile urge to defecate, prolonged defecation, a feeling of incomplete emptying of the intestine, salmonella bacteriophage is taken rectally (by enema).
Rectal salmonella bacteriophage is taken in doses (once):
- Up to six months - 10 milliliters,
- Six to 12 months - 20 milliliters,
- 12 months to three years - 20 - 30 milliliters,
- From three to eight years - 30 to 40 milliliters,
- From eight years of age and older - 50 - 60 milliliters.
During the period of convalescence (the period of recovery, when the body is on the mend), the salmonella bacteriophage is taken orally and rectally. Salmonella bacteriophage can be used as a means of preventing Salmonellosis disease and as a means for preventing the development of nosocomial or group infections within a family or group. For prophylactic purposes, a salmonella bacteriophage preparation is taken in the amount of a single dose corresponding to age in liquid form or 2 tablets once a week. For infants, the bacteriophage is shown only in liquid form.
Salmonella bacteriophage has no side effects and is not dangerous in case of overdose. The bacteriophage requires compliance with the rules for using the drug , storage conditions and expiration dates. The bacteriophage preparation is not used in case of turbidity or expired.
