Signs of bipolar disorder and how to treat it.
Mood swings in everyday life are not as rare as one might think. Being at the peak of high spirits and unrestrained fun, you can suddenly descend into a maelstrom of anxiety and deep sadness. But for this, certain events must occur in a person's life, which will dramatically affect the change in his mood (for example, tragic events, failures in achieving certain life goals, unpredictable breakdowns in relationships, and the like). These cases quite reasonably change the nature of the mood, which is not considered a sign of the disease.
But when a person has a sharp change in mood from euphoria to deep depression for no apparent reason or really existing circumstances, it is worth thinking about such a disease as bipolar disorder.
Signs of bipolar disorder.
Another name for bipolar disorder is "manic - depressive disorder" more accurately reflects the nature of change, increasing in a person's behavior. Mania in this case is understood as increased excitability, increased physical activity, increased performance, euphoric mood, insomnia or a decrease in the need for prolonged sleep, excessive talkativeness, the disappearance of restraints in matters of getting pleasure. The phases of depression are characterized by despondency, a pessimistic mood for the future, a drop in interest in vital things and in favorite activities, increased sleepiness, and decreased concentration of attention on one thing.
Bipolar disorder manifests itself in a frequent and abrupt change in the phase of mania and the phase of depression. There are cases when these two phases, when changing, go through an intermediate stage - the health phase, when a person is in a mentally balanced state and does not show signs of either overexcitation, or indifference and depression. The mania phase depletes a person's strength, but he does not notice it. Depression causes depression, a hopeless outlook on life, and a belief in the worthlessness of one's existence. Transitions from one state to another cannot be influenced from outside or are difficult to change from outside influence.
Bipolar Disorder - treatment.
The difficulty of treating bipolar disorder is that taking medications to relieve attacks of mania or depression should correspond to the phase in which the patient is currently located. A qualified psychiatrist or psychotherapist should have a subtle sense of when to prescribe a particular drug, since the mania phase requires the use of sedatives, and the depression phase requires drugs to stimulate activity. Treatment is carried out in a continuous course and aims to shorten the duration of the phase of mania and depression, as well as stimulate long periods of a balanced mental state. In addition to drug treatment, there is a stage of psychological support for a sick person, during which the patient is tuned into an optimistic mood, give him hope for a successful recovery and outline prospects for the future. Psychological support can be provided by a doctor - psychologist, close people, as well as a group of people with similar problems, where the sick person will find like-minded people who have experience in getting out of a painful state.
In a person suffering from bipolar disorder, it is necessary to cultivate a sense of self-worth, to show that, regardless of the opinions of others (sometimes offensive), he is valuable as a person, has many advantages and is obliged to continue to equip his life comfortably for himself.
