White spots on the nails are leukonychia.
Everyone has seen how white spots on nails look, but their origin can have completely different reasons.
The most common appearance of white spots on the nail is a mechanical injury to the nail plate, which partially peeled off at the site of injury and allowed air bubbles to pass through, which are visible to the naked eye.
But sometimes white spots on the nails are of a more serious origin, and indicate the presence of foci of the disease in the body. This is how leukonychia develops, which has several manifestations:
- point (white dots on the nail),
- limited (white spots on the nail),
- striped (white stripes across the nail plate),
- total (the overwhelming part of the nail plate or the entire nail turns white).
The causes of leukonychia always lie in the violation of metabolic processes, in the ingestion of toxic substances into the body, in infections of the nail plate, or in insufficient intake of the necessary structural elements into the body.
Treatment of leukonychia requires examination for the presence of thallium or arsenic components in the body, for possible infection of the nail plate with fungus. Reveals endocrine disorders and malfunctions of the digestive system. The quality of food is assessed. an analysis is carried out for the presence of necessary trace elements in the body.
Usually, a dermatologist begins the diagnosis, and then he can refer a patient suffering from leukonychia to an infectious disease specialist, endocrinologist, gastroenterologist, hematologist.
Treat white spots on the nails by eliminating the factors that caused its damage. Leukonychia with a correctly diagnosed initial disease is curable.
Do not forget that in addition to the internal factors that caused leukonychia, there are quite trivial reasons for its occurrence, which should first be excluded: improper nail care, traumatic treatment of nails under acrylic and gel coatings, low-quality nail polishes and low-quality means for removing patch plates (tips), varnishes and acrylic plastics.
