What is vigilance?
Vigilance is a word of Latin origin "vigilia" - wakefulness, vigor, which literally means "circumspection". This term is widely used in psychology and psychiatry to emphasize the behavioral traits of a person's character associated with the ability to maintain activity for a certain period of time.
Most often, vigilance is used in order to characterize a person's state during wakefulness as vigilant, contributing to a high concentration of attention, the ability to notice nuances during concentrated work.
People who are characterized by vigilance are not only able to concentrate, but also tend to self-control and control of those around them. Such a trait sometimes generates super-distrust in the results of the work of other people and makes a person rely only on himself.
Normally, vigilance is characteristic of perfectionists and introverts.
When considering mental illnesses, the term "vigilance" is used to emphasize a state of extreme circumspection, the ability to notice details from a feeling of fear, for example, in states of anxiety, morbid suspiciousness, manic states.
