Prevention and treatment of stuttering.
In a study of groups of people with stuttering, it was found that the vast majority of them do not experience stuttering problems when making a conversation, being alone with themselves. This fact is an indicator that the problem with stuttering lies in the field of communication between a person and strangers. This means that speech correction in the case of stuttering must be carried out by simulating the situation that forces the stuttering person to communicate with other people, multiple persistent training and relieving nervous tension at moments of such communication.
Stuttering treatment is carried out in two directions:
- Learn to speak slowly and fluently
- Learn not to emotionally strain at the time of the conversation.
Slow and smooth speech allows a person suffering from stuttering to regulate breathing, not to make sudden stops during a conversation, smooths out moments of tension in the speech apparatus.
As a rule, emotional stress during the periods of building colloquial phrases in the society of a stranger gives an impetus to the onset of stuttering.
When a person stops thinking about the fact that he has such a speech defect, he feels relaxed, and people communicating with him do not pay attention to how he speaks, but focus on what he says, give the person the opportunity to speak out, finish a phrase, do not interrupt in mid-sentence, do not show irritation from the fact that the conversation is dragging out, then the stuttering person develops a sense of security and comfort, which gives him confidence in building a conversation and helps to overcome stuttering.
As a prevention of stuttering, conversations on humorous topics, discussion of comedy films, and the story of anecdotal cases help well. When laughing, the muscles relax, the nervous tension subsides and the person forgets that he is stuttering.
