Food and stress.
Each person experiences stress in their own way: someone loses their appetite, and someone begins to overeat. With a loss of appetite, you cannot gain extra calories, but when you eat up stress, calories do not sleep - they are immediately deposited in the form of fat in reserve. How to avoid overeating when stressed?
During periods of stress, the nervous system works in such a way that it dulls a person's attention to many details of his life, and in particular to control over food intake. In a calm state, a person notices what he is eating, while experiencing pleasure from certain food products (dishes prepared from them).
With a reactive state of the psyche, when the brain is distracted by the solution of a complex problem, the experience of resentment, unhappiness or other stressful factors, a person is not able to distinguish tasty food from bad food, useful from harmful, and loses the feeling of pleasantness from the time spent at the table. It is at such moments that the immoderate absorption of useless or, worse, harmful food occurs. Food and stress start to work together to harm health.
How to eat during stress so as not to gain extra calories?
- For stress-eating, choose foods that are proven to improve your mood.
- Try to eat slowly, considering what exactly you are absorbing.
- Try to turn food into entertainment during times of stress, and arrange yourself to taste a few tasty foods by eating them in small amounts (small portions).
It is better to eat one favorite dish at a slow pace, savoring it, than to swallow several dishes indiscriminately and at speed - the stress does not go away quickly and there may not be enough food in the house!
