Escapism - what is it?
Life is undoubtedly hard. It is associated with overcoming external obstacles, with overcoming their own weaknesses. And this series of overcoming is not always within the power of even strong personalities. When a person approaches the limit of his mental capabilities, he has a choice: to fall into uncontrolled depression, the next stage of which is a possible mental disorder, or to wait out a serious condition somewhere in a "secluded corner" where he will be possible to hide from stress, irritants, limited own capabilities and failures to implement them.
A prudent person resorts to escapism - an escape from the realities of life into a world of illusions, created by himself, and giving the opportunity for psychological respite.
Variants of escapism are different, just as people's hobbies are different. From serious injuries, personal problems, dissatisfaction with the life around them, they "run away" to the worlds drawn by the imagination after reading books, watching movies, computer games. Someone plunges into creativity (drawing music), someone is fond of sports, career, travel, and someone goes to extremes (alcoholism, drug addiction).
Modern technology supports escapism by creating multiple escape options. Technologies built on virtual reality that simulate another life and enable a person to enjoy a different quality of life are especially successful in this matter.
No matter how attractive the illusions are, you should not linger in their arms for a long time, because at this time in real life a situation may develop that is able to change a person's real life, and he will miss this opportunity.
Escapism should remain a temporary phenomenon, a variant of psychological protection, relaxation, and not a way of life.
